The research program at our lab encompasses several key areas of focus.
First, we investigate the underlying pathways that may contribute to suicidal ideation and behaviors. Drawing on recent theoretical frameworks such as IPTS and 3ST, our aim is to deepen our understanding of the factors leading to suicidal thoughts and actions within a multilevel systems framework.
Second, we explore the specific needs, risks, and mechanisms related to suicide in rural communities, with a particular focus on rural Canada. Our goal is to identify and address the unique challenges faced by individuals in these areas, including their requirements for suicide education, prevention, intervention, and mental health support.
Third, we examine the interactions of individuals who engage in self-injury with online content and social networks, analyzing both the benefits and harms associated with this behavior. This research area is in alignment with ongoing work conducted in the field of Self-Injury and e-Mental Health at the University of Guelph.
Last, we investigate the barriers to implementing mixed-method, open, and replicable research practices within psychological science. Through this exploration, we aim to enhance the rigor and transparency of our research methodologies.
